As a pain medicine physician with Pain Specialists of Iowa, I serve Des Moines and the surrounding communities in Central Iowa. I am originally from Nebraska and attended medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. After graduating from medical school, I moved to Kansas City, KS for a 1-year internship (internal medicine) at Kansas University Medical Center. Following my internship, I was selected to become a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force where I served as a physician for reconnaissance squadrons. In addition to reconnaissance, I provided medical support for the First Airborne Command and Control Squadron during presidential support missions for President Barack Obama. It was in the Air Force that I was introduced to pain medicine. After completing my service in the Air Force, I began my anesthesiology residency training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. During my training, I continued to focus on pain medicine. I loved helping patients with chronic pain and received great satisfaction from helping improve my patients’ chronic pain and increase their functionality. Following my anesthesiology training, I continued my education and entered a pain medicine fellowship at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, OH. Here, I was trained to provide multimodal interventional treatments, medication management, and physical therapy to maximize a patient’s success.
